Luncheon Seminar with Professor Dr. Klaus Töpfer

On 25 July 2012, the DWIH Tokyo hosted a luncheon seminar with Professor Klaus Töpfer, Executive Director of the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) and Co-Chair of the Federal Governments Ethics Commission for a Safe Energy Supply. The event, which was jointly organized with the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan, took place at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo and was attended by around 100 people from industry, science and politics.

Professor Töpfer spoke about the German "Energiewende", the challenges, solutions and opportunities for renewable energy in Germany and Japan and stressed the need for long-term thinking and actions, as well as an international perspective. The discussion on the future use of nuclear and renewable energy was received with great interest.

The Seminar was opened with a presentation of the current situation of renewable energy in Japan by Mika Ohbayashi, director of the Japan Renewable Energy Foundation.
