Delegation of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Japan

A delegation of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), led by Dr. Jens Fahrenberg visited Japan to exchange views on innovation management and technology transfer with Japanese universities and research institutes from 12 to 15 September.

The meetings and the workshops at Kyoto University, Waseda University, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Tokyo Institute of Technology and the University of Tokyo were organized by the German Research and Innovation Forum Tokyo.

Both German and Japanese sides gave a brief introduction of their institutes or universities and explained how the transfer offices, referred to as TLOs (Technology Licensing Organization) in Japan, are anchored in the institutional structures. The subsequent discussions about different models and difficulties were very fruitful. Both sides repeatedly stressed the point that there are similar challenges in both countries. Therefore, these exchanges should be continued. The representatives of Kyoto University have already announced a follow-up visit to Karlsruhe. The German delegation comprised of technology transfer experts of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, inno AG, Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, Research Center Dresden-Rossendorf, DLR – German Aerospace Center, City of Karlsruhe, Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Wuerttemberg.
